Starting in the late 70s as a negligible non traditional sector with narrow Export- Base, the Ready Made Garment (RMG) industry, by the year 1983, emerged as a promising export earning sector of the country. Since then this sector has been acclaimed as the ''Thrust sector'' of our country. From US$7.00 million in 1981- 1982 to US$ 6548.44 million in 2002- 2003 and from 11% to 76% of total export earning during this period.About 3,000 garments factories are in operation in the country out of 100 are on joint venture operation in the export processing zone (EPZ).
